Listening to the piece of music Label and identify any reoccurring themes and motifs that you hear in the piece. What instruments are playing these motifs?
What do you think these motifs represent? How do you think this represents an American being in Paris and is it successful?

In "An American in Paris" has an extended use of percussion and using real world objects such as taxi horns.
How much of the rhythm section is influenced by Jazz music and what styles of Jazz music? If any part uses European Classical Music influence.
Record a 3-6 minute audio talking of the ideas you have.

Make a list of the similarities and differences of the two works. Include score references to specific details.

Gershwin incorporated elements of jazz and popular music into his classical concert works for orchestra. Demonstrate and discuss how successful he was in reconciling his jazz and popular music influences with those from the western classical tradition, as found in An American in Paris.

Listen to the piece and make comparisons and differences between the two. How are any of these pieces influenced by the styles of music Gershwin due influence from such as Classical music, Jazz and Tin Pan Alley? What stylistic elements makes Gershwin's music unique to Gershwin.

Gershwin wrote the piece of music "An American in Paris" in 1928, In 1951 it inspired a film of the same name. Follow the link to watch the film "An American in Paris" in which George Gershwin inspired. He also wrote the score for the film and included some of his famous songs like "I've got rhythm"
From What you know of the music so far. Answer the question; In what way do you think Gershwin's piece "An American in Paris" compliments and conflicts to the storyline of the film?
